What should I write when sharing a post on LinkedIn? That’s the question I receive. It is where I see the most failures when it comes to content strategy on LinkedIn.

Simply people struggle — to find the right content balance between professional and more casual topics. On top of that, they have a lack of ideas.

Let’s first define which formats you can share.

◽️ Image — png or jpeg format
◽️ Video — mp4 format
◽️ Document — pdf or pptx* format
◽️ Poll

*which I don’t recommend since it can break the type of the font you are using in the doc.

Now, when it comes to WHAT exactly, ideas are below.

Lessons learnt — business experience or from your job
Tips productivity — something that helped you to organize better or self improve, best practices
News & Trends — overview from your industry or business niche & your take-outs. Can be visualized as an infographic.
Advice — share valuable information from your expertise
Share your story — how you got where you are
Quote — it can be yours or your favourite from another expert
Failure — share a loss and what you have learned
Reference — highlight the client’s success story; case study
Provoking questions — which are great if you would like to have comments and create a lot of engagement
Studies, Reports & Research — when it comes to the analysis of a specific topic in a particular niche & provide data
Something that makes people smile — feel free to share jokes or fun stuff, however still it should be business-related. Best days for fun stuff you can post on Friday, Saturday

Keep in mind:
◽️ Use eye-catching visual content.
◽️ Share something that offers real value to businesses in your industry.
◽️ Engage with people who comment on your posts.

And before posting, do a small test. Ask yourself:
That piece of content that I am going to share on LinkedIn is it…
…educational?
…inspiring?
…gives thoughtful leadership?
…engaging?
…or entertaining?

So, how did you pass the test while writing a post on LinkedIn? Share in the comments.
