LinkedIn Pages — brand yourself with a cool banner that speaks to your audience

LinkedIn Page is your brand asset and the platform does not provide many fields for visual content on the Page itself.

In comparison, on Instagram, when you arrive at a particular profile you can see a lot of pictures at once. We all know that Instagram has just a different purpose. However, visual content makes more impression rather than text.

Any visual content faster grabs our attention.

That’s why — let’s use that available space on top of the LinkedIn Page for a visual piece of content.

On LinkedIn Profile Page, we call it ‘’Background photo’’ — the one behind your profile image.

On LinkedIn Company Page, we call it ‘’Cover image’’ — the one behind your company logo.

To elevate your Profile with a nice Background photo, I recommend the following.

Follow the right size according to LinkedIn 2021 guideline which is 1584 x 396 pixels.

What you can include on the banner, proposal:
• Logo of the company that your work for
• Logos of the companies/businesses that you are involved
• Tagline
• Mission
• Short statement — here, think what you would usually add in your LinkedIn Headline but maybe it is not fitting due to the character limit, so maybe that part of the message you can display on the banner.
• Website or/and email address
• Small logos of other socials, something like Follow us on [social media logo + your name at that platform]
• Say something about you/what you do

All that visualize in a very minimalistic, delicate and aesthetic way. Be careful not to overlap with too much information. Don’t place everything that I have listed. Focus on the most important for your business development purposes.

To make your Company stand out with a nice Cover image, I recommend the following.

Follow the right size according to LinkedIn 2021 guideline which is 1128 x 191 pixels.

What you can include:
• Your services but in bullet points, nice catchy phrasing
• Place image of your product/service
• No need to include a logo as your logo is there already on your Company Page, but tagline I would add for sure

Now, recommendations for both banners:

Make sure that your banner looks good on desktop and mobile version too, as the interface (position of the profile image/company logo) changes.

That’s why I recommend showing most of the information on the right side. For example: instead of putting the logo (on the banner) in the centre, move it to the right side.

In regards to the banner colours. If you would like to brand yourself properly, follow your style guide. I mean the same fonts, colours that are on your personal/company website. That will create a consistent look for the potential customer.

If you don’t have a style guide yet. Avoid old fashion fonts & colours. Just Google: top font trends, top colour trends, trending colour combinations. Pick something that goes with your personal choice. Also Google: colour psychology and it’s meaning. Colour choice may have an impact on your marketing message & brand perception. That affects human behaviour.

Make sure that in overall presence your profile image/company logo goes well together with a banner — that everything looks harmonious.

Make sure you upload a high-resolution banner.

You can create a banner in the graphics editor tool, or just a simple way using Canva, where are a lot of templates.

Your ‘’Background photo’’ doesn’t need to be the same as ‘’Cover image’’ — if you are involved in the particular company. Just follow the same style guide, but be creative and accommodate the overall message to the Profile Page visitor and Company Page visitor.

Create a fresh look of your banner that will make your LinkedIn Page stand out among others!
