Tips for making the right LinkedIn Profile Photo — a professional picture that will get you noticed.
The profile photo on LinkedIn is the only image that can make an impression when someone reviews your invitation to connect, especially on a mobile device.
Of course, your Headline is highly essential too. However, when someone reviews connection requests — something like swipe left or right, there are
clear actions — ignore or accept.
I recommend making a photo by a professional photographer in a studio and follow these tips:
✔️ Keep it professional-looking.
✔️ Use a high-resolution image. Avoid small, low-resolution images.
✔️ Make sure your face takes up at least 60% of the frame.
✔️ Choose the right expression. Consider practising in front of a mirror first to see which expression you like best. Do what feels natural to
you.
✔️ Avoid distracting backgrounds. Have a neutral background.
✔️ Wear what you would wear to work.
✔️ Take the photo in a soft (neutral) good light.
✔️ Try using a photo that won’t require much cropping. However, you can adjust the image after it has been uploaded.
✔️ Keep it up to date. You could update your photo every couple of years.
✔️ Use filters wisely. A photo should look like you.
Also, keep in mind the following for the further upload:
◽️ The ideal size 400 (w) x 400 (h) pixels
◽️ The maximum file size is 8MB
◽️ File type PNG or JPG
To sum up — invest in your profile picture. It’s your first chance to communicate that you are friendly, likeable, and trustworthy — attributes that are crucial to getting prospects to engage with you.
